Once your gas logs are installed, they must be approved by a city inspector. This is true even if you already have a venting system installed inside your fireplace. The cost of this inspection generally runs around $50.00 depending on your location. In order to install gas logs, you or your certified gas contractor can obtain an installation permit. The gas installer cannot get the permit on your behalf. You may even have to have a pressure test done although this is not always required. The pressure test is generally done during the first day of installation. The following day the city inspector will verify that the overall installation is correct and that the pressure test is acceptable. Of course, it will take less time if you already have a gas line installed in your fireplace. All you need done in that case is to connect it one day one and have a final inspection done the second day.
Once your gas logs installation is done and approved, you will still need to have it inspected and serviced once each year.
